I just wanted to take a moment to praise the job that Doctor Hackett did while conducting leadership training for my agency. Training in law enforcement, especially leadership training, is becoming more and more important, but also increasingly stagnant, as you could probably imagine. I was aware that Dr. Hackett was a presenter in Servant leadership and requested that he speak to my fellow command staff at my agency.

I believe this was the first experience Dr. Hackett had with speaking to law enforcement officers in this context. I thought he did an outstanding job of breaking the ice with my fellow officers and me. I cannot emphasize enough how vital a good ice breaker is. Dr. Hackett did a phenomenal job of putting us at ease before diving into the training material.

I felt that Dr. Hackett was well versed in the Servant leadership style. He was able to tailor the relevant training points and materials to our specific field, and he provided ample, quality examples of how the Servant leadership style was useful for all leaders, but mostly how relevant it was in law enforcement. He brought fresh, new perspectives to the leaders within my agency, including how we relate to one another and the officers under our command. I genuinely believe I am a better leader for having listened to Dr. Hackett.  Kudos on a job well done!

I have known Dr. John Hackett for many years. He is passionate about leadership and helping others succeed. He has donated many hours to coaching people who needed a life plan. He has freely given of himself in helping others. An extensive lifelong background in education, coaching, and school administration gives him a rare 360-degree holistic view in giving a person the perspective on how to live their life with passion, purpose, and intentionality. This new website will make available to many seekers, the savvy and experience of a coach who in my estimation is first-rate.

I offer this assessment on the basis of more than twenty years of knowing John Hackett, beginning with his work as Special Education Administrator at Consolidated District 230, where he earned a stellar reputation as an educator. Subsequently, John and I served together as colleagues at Lewis University and, most recently, at the University of St. Francis. During these past five years, John has taught the initial courses in the Doctor of Education in Leadership program at St. Francis. The student population is composed of teachers and school principals who wish to become general superintendents of schools, as well as leadership candidates from private businesses, health care organizations, and governmental and social service agencies.

In this work, John exhibited a remarkable grasp of the essence of leadership and its crucial role in institutional development and the achievement of corporate goals, while at the same time emphasizing the ethical and moral basis of sound leadership. John’s focus is always on the ways in which leadership accomplishes the major objectives of the institution while paying attention to the developmental needs and goals of the individuals in the organization. This is why I believe that John is so successful as a life coach and trainer—he sees the individual in the system, and because of the breadth of his experience, helps the candidate to negotiate the team-oriented environment of the institutional system without sacrificing their sense of self-worth or their ethical obligations as human beings.
